Springwood and District Kindergarten is a community owned Preschool for children aged 3-6 years, and is able to accommodate 54 children per day. The preschool first opened its doors in 1975, and in 2011 went through a total indoor refurbishment to update. Over our 40+ years we have seen many families come then successfully transition onto big school and we realise that an essential part of the preschool’s successful formula derives from wonderful families who have faith in the teaching team. The teams of teachers are experienced, with the average having been employed here at the preschool for at least 14 years. Our team is highly motivated and passionate about teaching with many of them constantly returning to formal education themselves to upgrade qualifications to ensure current educational methodologies are maintained and reflected into practice within the preschool. The underpinning belief is to ensure that every child has a great preschool experience, with access to quality programs. It is our belief that a great preschool experience has the ability to be one of the most important influences on the children’s wellbeing, which benefits them through their whole school life. Please feel welcome to pop in and look around, have a chat and ask any questions.
Online enrolments are welcomed and can occur directly through our website by following the links provided in the ‘Enrolling at Preschool’ tab at the top of the webpage. Our preschool operates during school terms only, Monday to Friday 8:15am until 3:45pm and is closed on public holidays (parents do not pay for any preschool closure days). The fee schedule can be viewed on the ‘About us’ page of this website. (Economic subsides are available for qualifying low income families).
Springwood Preschool is an inclusive community.
As Springwood Preschool is a community-based preschool we are inclusive to all children and families.
It is our aim to be a safe place for all families who feel valued and accepted for who they are. At the beginning of your time at preschool, we ask that you fill in your Being, Belonging and Becoming forms to help us support you and your child at preschool. This is your opportunity to share with us the important parts of your family life that you feel are important for us to know. If there are religious/cultural or family traditions that you feel we need further information to support your child, please chat with your child’s teacher.
Springwood Preschool is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework Version 2.0 which states: “Educators acknowledge the histories, cultures, languages, traditions, religions, spiritual beliefs, child rearing practices and lifestyle choices of families. They build culturally safe and secure environments for all children and their families. Educators value children’s unique and diverse capacities and capabilities and respect families’ home lives”.
At times, your child may be included in discussions, stories or use resources that refer to different cultures, religions or families. This is important to make all children feel valued and accepted. Our preschool is a place for all children to feel like they belong!
It is our aim that all families feel welcome and comfortable in our preschool.

“Our vision for Reconciliation begins with our acknowledgement of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the original owners and custodians of Australia, and our recognition that their culture and heritage shapes the cultural heritage of all Australians. We aim to use a holistic approach to create meaningful relationships and sustainable opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians in our preschool (Reconciliation Australia, 2012).”
